“Bridge” English

I was talking with a friend about grammar, and I said, “I think it is a ‘bridge’ thing.”

My friend looked at me laughing, and said, “What are you talking about?”

I said again, “Bridge!”

Of course, I was mispronouncing the word.

I said smiling, “Bridge, like Bridge English.”

My friend laughed and said, “British!” He added that I was sounding something like “bridge.”

The letter “t” between vowels or before the letter “r” and a vowel is called “flap t”, and it sounds as the letter “d” between vowels or before the letter “r” and a vowel. This video and this video will help you to understand the pronunciation of the “t” and “d” sound in this situation.
